The Trim & split clip tool lets you make precise changes to a clip. When you select this tool, the video player switches into trim and split mode inside the video player window, where you can:
Trim a clip to shorten it.
Split a clip into two parts.
Trim and split if you only want to split a selected section.

To trim a clip
In the main timeline, highlight the clip you want to trim.
Click the Trim & split clip tool. This opens trim and split mode in your video player window.
Drag the trim handles at the start and end of the clip to set the new in and out points.
Click Trim to selection to apply your trim.
Your clip in the timeline will now reflect only the trimmed section.
To split a clip
In the main timeline, highlight the clip you want to split.
Click the Trim & split clip tool. This opens trim and split mode in your video player window.
Drag the playhead to the point where you want to split the clip. The Split clip button will appear above the playhead.
Click the Split clip button.
Your original clip will be replaced by two new clips in the timeline:
Clip 1: from the start of your selection to the playhead.
Clip 2: from the playhead to the end of your selection.
To trim and split a clip
In the main timeline, highlight the clip you want to edit.
Click the Trim & split clip tool. This opens trim and split mode in your video player window.
Use the trim handles to adjust the start and end points of your clip.
Drag the playhead to the point where you want to split the clip. The Split clip button will appear above the playhead.
Click the Split clip button.
Your trimmed section will be split into two new clips in the timeline:
Clip 1: from the start of your trimmed selection to the playhead.
Clip 2: from the playhead to the end of your trimmed selection.
