What is B-roll?
B-roll is supporting footage that plays over your main clip. It adds visual variety to your edit, so you don't need to search for extra footage yourself. Auto Edit can add B-roll for you from your Seenit content library.
Before you start
You need to open Auto-Edit within an existing project or go straight into an Auto Edit from the home button (using the Make from Library button)
How B-roll works
Auto Edit looks at the clips in your library and sorts them by type:
Videos marked as B-roll (not talking heads) are labelled as B-roll with a description
Images are described automatically
Auto Edit then reads the transcript of your main clip. It finds the parts of the transcript that match each B-roll description, and trims the B-roll to the matching section.
Note: Timestamped B-roll descriptions for videos and descriptions for images are new in October 2026. They apply to content added from this release onward.
Older video content still has a B-roll description. It is less precise, because it is not matched to the transcript as closely.
Older images do not get a B-roll description from this release. Re-upload them if you want them to be used as B-roll.
Turn on B-roll in Auto Edit
Open a project in the Seenit studio, or open an Auto Edit directly.
In the Auto Edit settings, turn on B-roll.
Choose your B-roll source.
Your options depend on where you are working.
Inside a project
From project: B-roll comes only from the clips in this project.
From library: B-roll comes from your content library.
From project and library: B-roll comes from both.
None: No B-roll is added.
On an edit-only project
From library: B-roll comes from your content library.
None: No B-roll is added.
Review and adjust your edit
Auto Edit adds B-roll to your edit, but you stay in control. Before you share it, check the edit:
Play through the edit and check that each B-roll clip fits the part of the story it sits over (It's easier to do once you have confirmed the video and can then see the timeline)
To swap a B-roll clip, select it and choose a different clip.
To remove a B-roll clip, select it and delete it. The main clip will play without it.
When the edit looks right, export it.
Tip: If a clip is not a good match, swap it (or trim it if the clip is relevant but not that part) rather than removing it. This keeps the visual variety in your edit.
Good to know
B-roll only adds clips that already exist in your library or project. It does not create new footage.
If you have few B-roll clips in your library, Auto Edit has fewer options to choose from. Add more clips to improve the results.
For the most precise B-roll, use new content uploaded after October 2026.
